Help us coral our participants at the start line, help sort coloured bibs (different colour for each distance) and make sure everyone is staring in the correct heat. We will also be asking for a lead volunteer at the start line to work closely with our timing company to make sure all events are started on time
You are required to be at the start line for 6:00 a.m. with a finish of approximately 12 noon.
The finish line area allows you to be the first to congratulate and cheer on all the participants in the various events. Listed below are some of the various activities you could be involved in.
• Route/Gate Crowd control: This could include standing along the final 200 meters of the course to ensure that crowds obey the fencing and ensure proper identification is shown.
• Ushering of Runners: This will include, but not limited to, encouraging runners to continue moving forward towards the next station, this could also involve calling for medical help if necessary.
• Medal Distribution: Every participant receives a medal for participating. Volunteers will be asked to give out these medals and then ask participants to continue into the recovery area to have some food and to meet with family and friends.
Medical volunteers of all skill levels are welcomed along the route and in the recovery area. We need medical volunteers for all race distances.
First aid Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
We are looking for Pace Bunnies for the 5 Miler & 10 Miler events, let us know what your pace per/kilometer is and we will put a team of pacers together.
For most participants you will be the first face-to-face contact runners will have with The Manotick Miler – your expertise, friendliness, helpfulness and patience will form that critical first impression. In the eyes of the participants you’re a representative of the race and a valued part of the “crew” for the Manotick Miler.
Have a bike – Like to ride? Here’s your calling. Your role is to lead the pack around the route to keep them on track. We need lead and trail bikers in all race distances, if you have a preference please specify this in your e-mail.
Your job is to make sure the course is clear and runners are going in the right direction. Once you get to your position you may be asked to set up cones or barricades. You will also be given instructions specific to your position to relay to the runners and any approaching traffic.
Would you like to be more than a spectator at the Manotick Miler? Be ‘up close' to the action? Then come out and be a water station volunteer. Water station volunteers need to be in place well before the races start to fill cups and prepare station for the first wave of runners, you will be with a team of ppl handing out water from both sides of the road. Water stations are also a great place to have music, noise makers and lots of energy.
Prepare food and water in recovery tent for after the race. Clean up the tent. Make sure Garbage is changed when full. Help participants get what they need and keep the flow of finishers moving.
